iCES Publications News
iCES, the Institute of Contemporary European
Studies anounces its publications. These reflect the numerous
lectures and seminars as well as the character of our partnerships
and research.
Occasional Paper Series
On 19 November 2008 Sir John Gieve,
the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, delivered the keynote
address for the annual iCES Europe in the World Lecture on the
theme:
`Learning From the Crisis: Global Imbalances and Lessons for
Europe’. His lecture, together with a short postscript written
six months later, has recently appeared as iCES Occasional paper 01
both online (ISSN 2040-6517) and in print (ISSN 2040-6509).
On 23 April 2009 Jean-Dominique
Giuliani, Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation, the leading
French think tank on European affairs, delivered the keynote
address for the annual iCES Jean Monnet Memorial Lecture on the
theme: `Defence and Diplomacy: What Next for Europe ?’. Plans are
under way to publish this address as iCES Occasional Paper 02.
Contemporary Europe: Annual
Review
Contemporary Europe, the iCES Annual
Review 08/09, will be published in September 2009 both online (ISSN
20040-6495) and in print (ISSN 2040-6487). Edited by Professor
Michael Scriven, Director of iCES, the aim of the Review is to
analyse economic, social, political, cultural and educational
developments in Europe over the past twelve months from the
perspective of iCES. Contributors to the Review include iCES
academic staff, iCES Research Associates, iCES Distinguished
Visiting Fellows and other European specialists linked to iCES.
Contemporary Europe contains essays on
the European financial and economic situation, the recent European
elections, European institutions post the elections, energy and
sustainability in Europe, European Business, the European
manufacturing sector, the European solar energy market and
reflections on the European project and transatlantic
relations.
In addition, there are short articles
on iCES partnerships such as the Jean Monnet Association, the
Robert Schuman Foundation, the European Government Business
Relations Council, the Senior Experts group, the European Business
School Paris and the European Business School Madrid.
A concluding section comprises review
essays and iCES research profiles focused on ethnography, sub-state
nationalisms, internet technologies and the media.
Position, Specialists
and Research Papers
Future publications will include
joint iCES/Senior Experts Occasional Papers (the first of which
will be devoted to the theme: `Europe 20 Years After the Fall of
the Berlin Wall’) and the keynote addresses of iCES major lectures
planned for 2009-2010 (see article on `iCES Lectures and Seminars
2009-2010). A current selection of position papers from the Senior

These iCES publications will not
only provide a valuable annual record of the Institute’s work in
European affairs, but will also underpin the overall academic
endeavour of Regent’s College as it moves towards its application
for Taught Degree Awarding Powers (TDAPS).
