Restrictions

The Great Wall of ChinaBefore handing in your Study Period Abroad (SPA) Selection Form, please be aware of the following restrictions:

  • As a beginner in a foreign language, you must spend two semesters in that foreign language.
  • If you are doing two core foreign languages, you must do one semester in each language. If you are doing two languages, but only one is a core, you can choose to spend two semesters in your core language. In this case, registration in your second language at level 3 will be at the discretion of the Subject Leader.
  • If you are a beginner in your foreign language, institutions in South America, Barcelona and Canada, may not be available to you as they require a high level of language proficiency. Unless you make extra efforts, take extra courses and have special recommendations from the Languages Department, the IPO will not consider your selection within these areas.
  • By allocating your SPA destination, the IPO considers your grades in language and business classes as the main criteria for selection. Some institutions in the United States, Canada and South America require you to have an average of at least 58%. Keep that in mind when selecting your destination. For more details on each institution’s requirements, please check their information sheet.
