Important Information for Study Abroad Students

Here are some important points to remember both when preparing for your time abroad and while you are actually there.

  • Be sure to arrive on time and check semster start dates with the instition. The International Partnerships Office (IPO) cannot guarantee that institutions abroad will accept you if you arrive late.
  • Remember that you are subject to the rules and regulations of your Host Institution  - expect things to be different and be prepared to adapt as necessary.
  • Unless stated otherwise in the institutional information, you must register for 4 business subjects per semester, which must be chosen from the list given to you by the IPO in your application pack.
Course descriptions are available on the institutions' web sites in most cases – if not, ask in the IPO.
  • If you are doing a foreign language semester, you may replace one business subject with an appropriate language course. All subjects must be taught and examined in the host language.
  • If you want to have a major, remember to choose your Study Period Abroad (SPA) courses accordingly.
  • You must submit your Learning Agreement (downloadable here) to the IPO at EBS before your timetable is finalised.
  •  All your courses must be approved by the IPO. DO NOT leave this too late! Failure to submit your Learning Agreement could result in you failing the semester overall (if you take courses which are not approved).
  • To pass the SPA overall, you must pass a minimum of 15 ECTS credits or equivalent of the courses that you are registered for each semester unless stated otherwise.
  • In most cases, there are people at your host institution who can advise you on finding accommodation. Check on the web site of the institution or ask in the IPO. Get in touch with the International Exchange students who are currently spending the semester at EBS and the EBS students who have recently returned from their SPA .
  • If you need to arrange accommodation yourself, remember that you will need to allow enough time for this before the start of the semester. We recommend at least 2 weeks.
  • If you will need a visa to study abroad, it is YOUR responsibility to make the appropriate application in good time. Embassy contact details are in the Study Period Abroad handbook or in the IPO.
  • There are no re-sits for the SPA under any circumstances.
  • You will ONLY be allowed to register at L300 when we have received confirmation that you have passed your SPA(s). Prior to us receiving confirmation, you will be allowed to attend classes. However should you fail your SPA you MUST withdraw from classes at EBS immediately and re-take your SPA.
  • If, at any time, you are unsure about any aspect of your SPA, please contact the IPO.

"EBS-London students have a great overview of all the important areas in business, finance, management and marketing. The casework, strategic management and team-working elements to the EBS London degree give their students an edge over the competition. "
