EBS London International Scholarship Questions 2012/2013

Please choose one of the following questions:

1. Encouraging an enterprising spirit is at the root of many of the EBS London modules and programmes, including international business and events management. Many of our graduates start their own businesses and have become successful entrepreneurs. Your task is to produce a business proposal for any new venture, indicating clearly how the new business venture will be funded and how it will attract customers.

2. Discuss the importance of cultural awareness and language learning in the world of modern business. In researching and writing your essay, you can discuss your own experience of other peoples and their cultures, of languages, and of language learning.

3. Mark Zukerberg, CEO of Facebook, has recently said, "People have really gotten comfortable not only sharing more information and different kinds, but more openly and with more people - and that social norm is just something that has evolved over time." How can businesses harness the marketing potential of the social and technological trends illustrated by networking sites such as Facebook and what challenges and pitfalls face companies that attempt to do this?

4. With a number of Eurozone countries such as Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain facing potential defaults on their bank or sovereign debts, many politicians, academics and business leaders are claiming that the Euro is a failed experiment. Some even advocate the scrapping of further bailout plans, allowing the affected nations to leave the Euro and restructure their currencies and economies accordingly. Evaluate the possible economic and political effects that a decision such as this would have on the countries facing default and the European Union as a whole.

5. How do you think the technological advances in online meetings and video phone conferences are going to change the events industry? Look at academic, but also professional sources, to support your answer, arguing either for or against a decline in face-to-face meetings.

6. Looking at academic literature, you will notice that there is no clear definition of Events Management as events are always unique and different in nature. Research the various definitions from academic sources, explain why it is so difficult to define, and come up with your own definition of Events Management. You should also draw upon professional and industry knowledge.

"For me EBS was the point of no return. I got more than I ever expected in terms of academic knowledge, experience, friends and, most of all, life. The school is great because all the theory learned is also applied in different real and current case studies. This helps develop a lot of skills which are crucial in the business world, such as working in a team, the ability to make a good presentation or to work under pressure."
