Course AimsComputer based Information Systems play a vital role throughout modern business and is used to support all aspects of an organisation's normal functions and activities. Indeed, information is now regarded as the single most important resource in every business function as the western economies move increasingly to knowledge based economies. New technologies have emerged, creating higher levels of automation, with high speed communication leading to improved access and processing of information. These combine to provide management with information systems that can be harnessed and directed towards an organisation's goals.

PresentationThe teaching/learning strategy for this module has been designed to ensure that the programme level learning outcomes outlined above have been acquired. The teaching/learning strategy is chosen to give the student opportunities to increasingly manage their own learning with the help and support of the tutor. This involves the wide use of the internet for research purposes and the use of an e-learning platform such as Moodle. All the teaching material is stored on Moodle as well as the T: Drive and students are expected to download the PowerPoint slides, handouts, case studies as needed. Students can also use the online Moodle VLE to upload case study answers and receive feedback. Discussion groups and forums are also set up using Moodle to enhance the learning process. Reports produced by students can be uploaded to an internet based software such as Turnitin to detect for plagiarism.

To enable the achievement of these aims, the following teaching and learning methods will be used:

Asseseement MethodsThe assessment will comprise two pieces of coursework and a final exam all equally weighted. The first piece of coursework will comprise a case study, multiple choice test and an essay done in class, while the second piece of coursework will be a report on an information system.
