ART

What does art have to do with Diffusion?

The diffusion of emotions through facial contortions - expressive diffusion - is the main recurring theme throughout this series of prints. Every face is unique and has a language of its own, expressing emotions in a distinct and particular way: anger, fear, happiness, apathy, sadness and doubt are just a fraction of the face's expressive capabilities.

In between is an infinite range of subtleties beyond classification, a spectrum that communicates to others more efficiently than words ever can.

The face is the human species' basic common language - universally understood and instantaneously recognised. I want high visibility with maximum exposure for my images, and aim to achieve this literally ' diffusive ' effect through a set of postcards, posters, and booklets which can easily be mailed, stuck on a wall, or flicked through on a lounge table.

Why this choice of artwork?

In this selection of about 40 small drawings and paintings each has a hatching technique typical of etching, but is in fact simply executed using basic ink pens. This allows anybody who has ever held a pen to directly identify with the chosen medium and the artist's ' etat d'esprit ' at that moment.

As faces are distorted, mutated, exaggerated and captured in time, their expressions are a window into the characters' feelings and personalities. With a little imagination the viewer can intuitively deduce a story behind each artwork

.

Although this collection is only one facet of the portfolio of Dorian Hirsch, he feels it is important to stay consistent within a theme and style, and given the relatively large sizes of the other two artists exhibiting with him, he wants to differentiate himself by having many small prints arranged in a grid formation.

His goal is to capture the audience's attention from afar (maybe looking through the gallery window), and making people curious for a closer look, ideally luring them inside. (If you would like to know more ask Dorian on Dorianhirsch@hotmail.com).
